Ask Dale: How Do I Stop Junk Mail?

Today’s Ask Dale question is from Amanda.  She tells us “I get too much junk mail. It’s overwhelming!  How can I stop the post office from sending me junk mail I don’t want?”

The u-s postal service will not do much to stop junk mail. After all,  it does make billions of dollars annually from junk mail.

Your best option is the association of national advertisers opt-out program. It costs four dollars to register online at DMAChoice.org. Your registration is good for ten years.

Another site to consider is OptOutprescreen.com. The major credit bureaus run this site.  This covers pre-approved credit card and insurance offers you might get in the mail. It is free to register, and your registration is good for five years.

These programs will stop most, but not all, of the junk mail you receive.
