TrustDale Tip of the Day: *Tips to Extend the Life of Your Car
    Tires

  1. Check for uneven wear
Check tires for uneven wear. If you’ve maintained tire inflation properly, uneven wear may indicate the need for a wheel realignment. It can also mean improperly operating brakes or shocks, a bent wheel, internal tire damage, or worn bushings.

  2. Check tread for safety
Most states require tires to be replaced when they have worn down to 1/16-inch (1.5 mm) of remaining tire depth. Tires sold in North America are required to have “wear bars” molded into them to make it easy to see when tire replacement is legally required. However, if you’ll be driving in the rain, you should change your tires when there is 1/8-inch (3 mm) of tread left. Otherwise, water may not escape from under your tires fast enough and you risk hydroplaning — a dangerous situation in which your car loses traction and literally floats on the water. Stick an American quarter between the treads in several places. If part of Washington’s head is always covered, you have enough tread to drive in the rain. If you drive in snow, you’ll need at least 3/16-inch (5 mm) of tread to get adequate traction. Stick an American penny between the treads. If the top of the Lincoln Memorial is always covered, you’re ready for winter driving.

  3. Rotate your tires
Rotating your tires helps to distribute tire wear evenly and ensures that you’ll get the maximum road life out of them. The first rotation is especially important. Your owner’s manual should specify both rotation period and pattern. If not, rotate your tires every 6,000 to 7,500 miles (9,700 to 12,000 km) — your tire dealer should know the correct pattern of tire rotation.

TrustDale Tip of the Day: *How to clear mistakes from your credit report.
  1. Contact the credit bureau first. If you find mistakes in your report, take the matter up with the credit-reporting agency immediately. Rather than dispute the mistake via an online form, send a letter that includes your complete name and address, a description of each item you dispute, an explanation of why you dispute it and a request for deletion or correction of the information.
  2. Keep good records. Along with your letter, enclose copies (NOT originals) of documents that support your position, as well as a photocopy of your credit report with the items in question circled. Send the letter and enclosures by certified mail, return receipt requested, so you can document what the credit bureau received. Keep copies of all correspondence, and jot down and save notes about each phone conversation you have.

TrustDale Tip of the Day: *How to Clean a Microwave

Using a Lemon

  1. Cut a lemon in half and place both halves cut-side down on a microwaveable plate with a tablespoon of water.
  2. Microwave for about 1 minute or until the lemon is hot and the inside of the microwave is steamy.
  3. Wipe the inside of the microwave with kitchen paper and wash the plate as above. (Now that the lemon is hot and squishy, it makes a great natural cleanser for a smelly garbage disposal: cut the halves into smaller pieces and flush through with plenty of water.)

TrustDale Tip of the Day: *Tips to Extend the Life of Your Car’s Exterior
Mercedes Benz S-Class

1. Avoid light fixture problems
When changing a bad bulb, clean dirty or corroded sockets with fine steel wool or a small wire brush. Wipe the socket clean of debris before installing the new light bulb.
2. Fix small windshield chips
Got a rock chip, crack, or ding in your windshield? Bring your car to a windshield repair shop. For far less cost than replacing the windshield, they can fix chips and cracks, even quite long ones. The repairs not only keep the chips and cracks from spreading and restore structural integrity, they also improve clarity.
3. Fill with washer fluid only
Don’t add water to the windshield washer reservoir. It won’t clean as well as washer fluid, and it may freeze in cold weather and damage the system. Don’t try to run your windshield washer system once you suspect there’s no more fluid in the tank, or you may damage the washer fluid pump.

Care and Maintenance Tips Keep Your Car Running in Top-Notch Condition
We’ve compiled our best expert advice, surprising tricks, and car care tips to prolong the life of your automobile!

Drive with care everyday
Being car considerate shouldn’t stop after the break-in. Drive with care every day and your car will reward you with longer intervals without repair.

  1. Do not race your car’s engine during start-up. This is a quick way to add years of wear to your engine, especially if it’s cold outside.
  2. Accelerate slowly when you begin your drive. The most wear to the engine and drive train occurs in the first ten to twenty minutes of operation.
  3. Warming the engine by letting it idle in the driveway is not a smart idea. The engine doesn’t operate at its peak temperature, resulting in incomplete fuel combustion, soot deposits on cylinder walls, oil contamination, and ultimately damaged components.
  4. Put less strain on your engine and automatic transmission by shifting to neutral at red lights. Otherwise, the engine is still working to push the car even while it’s stopped.

Adaptation key to surviving recession…

We’ve all had experience with the economic downturn of 2008. In fact, for many it’s continued to be the economic downturn of ’09, ’10, and ’11. To review, not much has changed. The root and most visible component of the problem, over-inflated and now deflated home values, continues to be the dog that wags the tail. Click HERE to read more from Dale on surviving the recession.

TrustDale Tip of the Day: * Tricks to Make New Habits Stick
  1. Form a Trigger – A trigger is a ritual you use right before executing your habit. If you wanted to wake up earlier, this could mean waking up in exactly the same way each morning. If you wanted to quit smoking you could practice snapping your fingers each time you felt the urge to pick up a cigarette.
  2. Replace Lost Needs - If you are giving up something in your habit, make sure you are adequately replacing any needs you’ve lost. If watching television gave you a way to relax, you could take up meditation or reading as a way to replace that same need.
  3. Be Imperfect – Don’t expect all your attempts to change habits to be successful immediately. It took me four independent tries before I started exercising regularly. Now I love it. Try your best, but expect a few bumps along the way.

TrustDale Tip of the Day: *Fireplace and Home Fire Safety

More than one-third of Americans use fireplaces, wood stoves and other fuel-fired appliances as primary heat sources in their homes. Unfortunately, many people are unaware of the fire risks when heating with wood and solid fuels.

Heating fires account for 36% of residential home fires in rural areas every year. Often these fires are due to creosote buildup in chimneys and stovepipes. All home heating systems require regular maintenance to function safely and efficiently.

The United States Fire Administration (USFA) encourages you to practice the following fire safety steps to keep those home fires safely burning. Remember, fire safety is your personal responsibility …Fire Stops with You!

Keep Fireplaces and Wood Stoves Clean

  1. Always use a metal mesh screen with fireplaces that do not have a glass fireplace door.
  2. Install stovepipe thermometers to help monitor flue temperatures.
  3. Keep air inlets on wood stoves open, and never restrict air supply to fireplaces. Otherwise you may cause creosote buildup that could lead to a chimney fire.
  4. Use fire-resistant materials on walls around wood stoves.

TrustDale Tip of the Day: *How to Hang Pictures on Plaster Walls

Things You’ll Need

  • Masking tape
  • Nails
  • Screws
  • Power Drill
  • Adhesive Hangers

Instructions

  1. Put a piece of masking tape over the spot where you plan to put a nail. This will help to give your plaster some extra support so it does not flake off around the nail hole.
  2. If you are hanging small pictures on the wall the easiest way to accomplish the task is to use small nails. Don’t try to hammer the nail straight into the wall. Instead hammer the nail at a 45 degree angle for best results.
  3. For bigger pictures try using a power drill to create a pilot hole for your nail. Screws also make good alternatives to nails and put less stress on the plaster.
  4. If what you are hanging is not very heavy you might be able to avoid putting any holes in your wall all together. Check out adhesive hangers as an alternative to nails and screws.

TrustDale Tip of the Day: *Caring for Your Aging Pets in the Winter

In the winter time, we take care to put out a warm blanket for the cat. We get a parka for the Chihuahua to make their walks warmer…and to give us a few smiles as well. We break out our winter coats for long walks with the dog, and curl up next to the window with hot chocolate to peer at the snow with the cats. We take a lot of precautions to care for our pets in the winter time, but do you give extra care to you aging pet? At Deceased Pet Care our family and staff have pets of all ages, and we know that caring for your pet must be specialized for their age.

“Older pets may not show that they have extra needs, but in the winter they need your help to be more comfortable.” Photo credit: http://www.flickr.com/photos/moriartys/5388963747/sizes/m/in/photostream/

“Dogs are often older than we think they are, especially when we’ve had them as puppies, as time flies by and we have always been used to their energetic behavior. “ – Purina

“Your pet can enjoy the winter with you as long as they stay active and stay warm.” Photo credit: Photostream
It’s easy for us to overlook older pet’s needs with seasonal change, especially if they’re still really energetic and active in their old age. Still, problems for aging pets such as a need for more warmth, arthritis, and more, need to be helped through the chilly weather. Here are a few ways to help your elderly pet through the season:
  • Check out where your pet’s bed is. Is it near any large windows? In a drafty spot? Make sure that your pet’s bed is kept in a warm, quiet place away from any drafts, and that it’s a little extra plush in the winter. The soft bed feels great on for their joints, and the warmth helps their joints as well.
  • Is your cat a little less springy than usual? Dog not as apt to play fetch? Arthritic pets have increased issues with their mobility in the cold. Help lift them in and out of cars, and even up the stairs. A ramp to the car is a great decision for large breeds, as well. Keep things in easy to reach locations, such as having food and water dishes and litter boxes on each level of your home for your cats.
  • Does your pet have any issues with their respiratory tract? Pets with standing issues with breathing will have a harder time with cold weather. Talk to your vet about how to best protect your pet, and if they’re on medication, if a change in dosage is necessary.
  • Staying inside during harsh winter weather is cozy, but it’s also stagnant. Lack of activity can result in weight gain, which puts more strain on your pet’s elderly frame. Play often and keep them active to deter depression and weight gain in your pet and for yourself.

What kind of precautions do you take to protect your pet in the winter time? Tell us about them on Twitter.

SUMMARY: Everyone needs a little TLC in the winter time, but elderly pets call for a special kind of attention. Don’t forget these important steps to caring for your pet throughout the winter weather and holiday season.
